Mkomazi National Park,
In the northern region of Tanzania, halfway between Moshi and Tanga, is where you’ll find the Mkomazi National Park. The Pare and Usambara mountains, which soar over the park’s limits, provide a stunning backdrop. Mount Kilimanjaro can also be seen from the park, depending on the weather.
The southernmost point of the Sahel region, which resembles a dry, desert-like landscape, is marked by Mkomazi in terms of vegetation. Due to the environment, acacia-Commiphora woodlands make up the majority of the vegetation, which transitions to a dry land forest as you approach the western mountains.
Quite a few activities can be conducted in Mkomazi, including game drives, walking safaris, mountain hikes and bird watching. Mkomazi can be visited throughout the year, with late June to early September best for large mammal and bird watching, Mkomazi National Park would smoothly fit into the Arusha – Usambara – Tanga – Pangani – Saadani – Dar es Salaam / Zanzibar circuit, or may be visited as a single destination from Arusha or after Kilimanjaro climbing.
By road, Mkomazi is easily accessible via Same, which lies on the surfaced highway connecting Arusha to Dar es Salaam. The Park is also easily accessible on special arrangements through Njiro, Kivingo, and Umba gates. The park can also be easily accessed from the nearby existing tourist attractions in the Eastern Arc Mountains, The Coast, and Kilimanjaro Mountain. Charter flights are available to the Kisima airstrip.
There is one semi-permanent tented camp near the Park headquarters. Few designated basic campsites where one must bring his/her camping gear and food. There are several small hotels and guest houses in the Same town
